About us

Grangetown Generations is a community-led charity dedicated to strengthening our neighbourhood, protecting vital local services, and creating opportunities for residents of all ages to thrive.

Based in Grangetown, and supporting residents in surrounding areas including Eston, we ensure local people have access to welcoming spaces, essential services and meaningful opportunities — now and for future generations.

We believe strong communities are built through connection, inclusion and local ownership. Everything we do is shaped by local need, delivered by local people, and designed to make a lasting difference.

Our Mission

To improve quality of life in Grangetown and surrounding areas by providing accessible community services, reducing isolation, supporting families, developing skills, and protecting local assets for future generations.

Our Vision

A connected, resilient community where residents feel supported, valued and proud of where they live — and where local services are protected, sustainable and community-owned.

Our Community Centres

Grangetown Generations operates two community centres:

  • Grangetown Generations Centre (Grangetown)
  • Birkdale Community Centre (Eston)

Both buildings are proud to be the first designated Community Resilience Hubs in Cleveland, strengthening local capacity to respond, support and protect residents during times of crisis.

Together, these centres provide safe, welcoming spaces where residents can meet, access support, take part in activities and feel part of their community.

What We Do

Community-Led Library

We proudly operate a volunteer-led community library service, protecting access to books, learning and digital inclusion.

Families, Children & Early Years

Inclusive baby, toddler and early years sessions that promote play, learning, development and parental wellbeing.

Adult Learning, Wellbeing & Social Support

Social groups, learning activities and wellbeing sessions that reduce loneliness and improve mental wellbeing.

Volunteering & Skills Development

Meaningful volunteering that builds confidence, skills and belonging.

Community Kitchen, Shop & Food Support

(In Development)

We are developing an integrated community kitchen and community shop, directly tackling food insecurity and food waste while providing cooking education, one-to-one support and affordable access to essential food items.

Community Repair Stations

(In Development)

We are developing community repair stations where residents will have access to tools and repair spaces to repair, reuse, replace or recycle items — reducing waste, saving money and supporting environmental sustainability.

Library of Things

(In Development)

We are developing a Library of Things — a low-cost community hire service where residents will be able to borrow everyday equipment and household items, reducing unnecessary spending and promoting shared, sustainable living.

Sustainability & Community Resilience

Investment in renewable energy, including rooftop solar and battery storage, ensures long-term sustainability of our community centres and strengthens their role as community resilience hubs.

How We Work

  • Community-led and volunteer-powered
  • Inclusive, welcoming and accessible
  • Focused on long-term impact
  • Built on partnership, trust and local pride

Our Impact

Grangetown Generations protects vital services, strengthens community connection, supports families and adults, reduces food insecurity, promotes sustainability, builds skills, and ensures resilient community centres that will serve local people for generations.
